A little over two weeks ago, I joined the ranks of the bespeckled:

Eyemasters wanted $90 for the non-polarized clip-on sunglasses for them! Thanks to a tip from my dad, I picked up slip-on polarized lenses at Sam’s for 13 bucks. They don’t conform exactly to my lenses (they overlap slightly), but you can’t beat the performance for the price:

I have an astigmatism; according to my optometrist, I could have foregone getting glasses for another year, maybe more, but I decided to go for it now, while I have vision insurance! Sitting in front of computer screens 10+ hours a day, for both work and fun, as well as lots of reading for pleasure, helped spur the decision to get them now. I wasn’t really surprised; my dad’s worn glasses since I was a small child, and my mom has to wear them to read and drive, so it was inevitable.
The style is Chaps 51 by Ralph Lauren, just in case you’re so dazzled by them you want to rush out to get your own pair.

Did you get an antireflective coating? I can't recommend it enough if you didn't, especially if you tend to sit near a window while you're on the computer.

Thanks! :)
It was unbelievable how many frames my wife & I both went through (her eyes are much worse off than mine). Just when I thought I "had the pair for me," one of us would discover another frame that we liked even better. I must say that the saleslady who helped me was fantastic, and brutally honest. If I could have tipped her, I would have.
Yes, I got the antireflective coating, yet one more reason the lenses cost $250 for the weakest prescription possible. (Thank God that Verizon provides vision insurance that covers eyewear; my $300+ frames & lenses cost me less than $90.) Both my optometrist and the saleslady recommended it, especially in light of what I do for a living, and I'm very pleased we went that option.

Meep! I've got a slight astigmatism in my right eye and a little hyperopia in both. I paid about $100 Aussie for the lenses, and $230 for the frames (well, the insurance paid... hee!). Spent another $50 for the two coatings, the other one being UV, but insurance don't do the optional stuff.
So, about $380 Australian, about $190 US.
That's just weird.
