And you built it that way why?

It rains nine months out of the year in Seattle. So why oh why would you replace an aging dome with an open-air stadium? Collective stupidity?

Attemping to cultivate a home field advantage? The realization of the fact that no dome team has ever won a Super Bowl?

(I'm guessing you're talking about the Seahawks.)

Yes, I am referring to the Seahawks.

No dome team has ever won a Super Bowl? Were the St. Louis Rams not playing in a dome the season they won the Super Bowl? Do the Cowboys not count because Texas Stadium is essentially a dome with a hole cut out in the top? (I'm not being facetious, I'm asking for clarification.)

Today during the game it was mentioned that this is the first time since the new stadium was built that it has rained during a Seahawks game. That is a pretty good record. ;-)

I forgot about the Rams - I must've heard that stat prior to the Rams winning the Super Bowl.

I guess Texas Stadium doesn't count because it has the hole, so the Cowboys at least get some weather.

One of the theories is that the average dome team plays at least half its game in climate-controlled comfort and, more importantly, builds its team to take advantage of the home environment.

Take a pampered dome team built on speed (like, oh, Indy) and put them in a windy, cold, rainy/snowy game on a slow field and it can often throw off their whole gameplan.

I moved to Seattle right before they imploded the old stadium and also wondered why they would build an open air stadium. The general concensus is that teams who play in open air stadiums typically do better in the end. Yesterday was indeed the first time in the new stadium we had rain during a game (and yes, I was there).
