My friend Tom is interviewed about his relationship, proposal, and marriage to my friend Tiffany. I’m still pleased to have been somewhat on the inside track regarding Tom’s purchasing the ring, planning the proposal, etc.
Politely ignore that the last two paragraphs of the post are a none-too-thinly veiled advertisement for the blog’s corporate parent.

Not that I plan on doing anything like this, I just found it intriguing.

posted on September 6, 2008 1:57 AMI thought it was funny how they spun the fact that my ring isn't a diamond with "because he researched her preferences first!" Which, technically, is true. But the reason for it is my moral objection to diamond sourcing practices, my contempt for deBeers, and the manufactured nature of the "tradition" of the diamond engagement ring (and yes, Tom told them that). That said, it actually IS true that if we were looking for a diamond, Mervis would be at the top of the list- they own their own mines in South Africa, which wipes out a lot of my issues with diamonds. I actually wish they'd do more promotion on the conflict-free aspect of that, rather than just the "we cut out the middleman so you pay less" aspect.
