Eh, while I agree that "sportsmen" and "man-made" are kind of over the top, I see the EU's point on "Miss" and "Mrs."
While I have no problem with (and even enjoy) being called Mrs. Bridge in a social situation, or even in a service situation (hotel staff, home repair professionals, etc.) it actually does really bother me to be called Mrs. Bridge in a professional situation pertaining to MY job. I feel like it just calls attention to my marital status and home life in a way that's completely irrelevant and distracting. It sets me apart from my male colleagues in a very stark way, and I work in a field where it's already hard enough for a woman to be taken seriously. It surprised me, but I understood why "Ms." was invented the MOMENT a professional contact addressed me as "Mrs. Bridge."
And don't even get me started on "Miss," which sets my teeth RIGHT on edge anytime I hear it used on someone over the age of 18.
