According to the Social Security Administration, the name Davis ranked as the 381st most popular male name in 2003. There were 689 Davises registered with the SSA last year, meaning there were 1.89 Davises born each day in 2003. Ours was one of them!
The name Davis (381/689) was less popular than Mauricio (380/690), but more popular than Kade (382/684). It was also more popular than Dallas (391/674) and Houston (840/207), but was wallopped by Austin (33/11,553). (I was curious about the major Texas place names being used. )
We said we wanted something rather unusual, but not weird. Davis fits the bill nicely, and the fact that it was my grandfather’s middle name makes it all the more perfect. Looking back on the short list of boy names we had, I cannot imagine our little guy being anything but a Davis! Our continued thanks goes out to our friend Wendy, who got us to think about using the name.
Davis started walking this past Wednesday, the 15th of December, without assistance. “Walking” may not quite be the proper term, as it’s more of a drunk-monkey stumbling, but the little guy is getting himself all over the house without hanging on to the walls, the furniture, or Mom or Dad. Dad has nicknamed Davis’s stroll as the “King Kong monkey stomp.”
On Friday, the 17th, when Dad picked Davis up from school, Davis walked, while holding Dad’s finger, all the way from his classroom, outside the school building, down the sidewalk, across the drive, in to the parking lot, and over to Dad’s Pilot! He only stumbled and fell once. Dad was quite proud!
