So long, farewell...

Greetings, Godblog readers. Just an update to let you know this domain will soon be in new hands, as the transfer process is underway. So if this blog disappears in the next couple of days, that’s why!

I continue to blog over at Retrophisch.

Think of it not as an end, but rather a new beginning

I’ve been thinking for quite a while now (that is, for at least the last eight months or so), of discontinuing blogging here at Godblog. It’s just that the bulk of my blogging has always been at Retrophisch, and I’d like to concentrate my efforts there.

Four and a half years ago, I had this grand plan of blogging in five separate weblogs, each devoted to a certain space of my interests. It rapidly became apparent that this was never going to fly in the long run, and I eventually closed three of the other blogs. It would be a lot easier and make a lot more sense for me to concentrate on just one, and that one is going to be Retrophisch. In other words, what you’ve been reading here you’re now going to read there.

Which left the question of what to do with Godblog. I could simply archive it, as I did my original blog, retaining the domain name and simply not posting to it. But I thought godblog.com was too good of a domain to be left to such a fate. Yet I was concerned as to who might end up with the domain, were it to be allowed back in to the wilds of domain registration.

There were certain individuals/groups I knew would be interested in it, and get more mileage out of it than I have, and I would not mind seeing these persons use the domain to further the kingdom of God. Yes, I did say “further the kingdom of God”, because I look at the this as a mission opportunity of sorts.

Conversations regarding this matter this past weekend were enthusiastic, and we’re in the beginning phases of transferring the domain. This site as it stands now will be moved over to Retrophisch as a subdirectory and archived, with all active blogging on the subjects of God, Jesus, faith, and so on taking place at Retrophisch.

Future posts here on Godblog will be purely technical in nature, i.e., when the site is archived on Retrophisch, etc.

Thanks for having read Godblog for the past four and a half years, and I hope to see you over at Retrophisch.

Advent blog

In celebration of the Advent season, our church has started an Advent blog you may want to peruse.

(Though I’m going to have to have a chat with Brent on his continuing choices of insane colors for blogs he creates. First the neon green at the Diner, then the neon orange at the Holland mission blog, now hot pink. Yeesh. I’m glad I can read the posts in black type on a white background, thanks to RSS. I feel as if I go to the web pages themselves, I need sunglasses.)

Israel Update

If you’d like a first-person account of the Hezbollah attacks on Israel, and the Israeli response, head over to David Dolan’s site and subscribe to his e-mail list.

David is a Christian pastor and author who has been resident in Israel for many years. Last year, David spoke at our church, and even for someone like me, who has followed the Mideast conflict, and the region’s history, for many years, it was eye-opening.

'Godblog' blasphemous?

blasphemous IM conversation

At least in the opinion of one individual.

Granted, the post is directed at GodBlogCon, not at my site, but I suppose I’m still standing in this particular furnace.

John Mark Reynolds calls it:

[T]he term “Christian” itself was just this sort of pop pagan shorthand for the followers of the Nazarene. Christians did what the Godbloggers hope to do and took over the term for themselves. They sanctified the impiety of secular language making the sneer “little Christ” a term of honor. Surely we can do the same with the phrase Godblog with a little help from our normal friends, if they are not too delicate for the task?

[…]

It is amusing that this post charging blasphemy to those of us involved in GodBlog and attributing lots of other social attitudes having nothing to do with our actual beliefs came out on the day my breviary said was the traditional Western feast of Saints Cyril and Methodius … who in their own day were sniffed at for using the language of the people to try to communicate the Divine.

Crossroads Blogstorm

It warms my heart to see more and more Crossroads Bible Church staffers, and members of their family, pick up the blogging meme.

Foremost is our senior pastor, Tim Stevenson, whose new online home is Living Inside Out. Not to be outdone by her spouse, Tim’s wife Deb can be found at Proverbs and other stuff by The Silver Crown, and kudos to Deb for beating Tim to the posting punch.

Joye Messerli, wife of our Lead Pastor, Mike, can be found at the aptly-named Joyeful Things.

The church’s Pastor of Student Ministries, aka, “youth minister,” Brent McKinney, has been blogging for quite a while at The McKinney Diner. Now if we can just get Mike, Dave, Bill, and Bob blogging, the circle would be complete.

Yes, Lida, there really is a Godblog.com

Lida was wandering the wilds of the Internet, and found this:

Reverend Fun Godblog cartoon

This prompted her to enter the above-referenced URI in to her browser’s address field, and it obviously brought her here. Thanks for the cartoon link, Lida!

On commenting

In addition to the archival clean-up, I’ve cleaned up the comments implementation, and have enabled TypeKey authentication. The latter move is to kill as much comment spam as possible. It has proven quite effective for Retrophisch, where now I just worry about TrackBack spam. TypeKey is a free service, and it allows you to comment on any blog which supports the service.

Archival clean-up

Just as I did with Retrophisch, I have a new Archives page set up, and it is accessible via the Archives link in the upper-right-hand corner navigation bar. I have removed the monthly archive listing from the side bar links.

Welcome

Welcome to my weblog on my faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. My hope is to share my thoughts on God, Christianity, and the Bible, for both my believing and non-believing friends to read and digest. You may also find some crossover between this blog and my political blog, Ludichris, when it comes to the realm of religious liberties in the United States. Further postings regarding matters of faith and God will be absent from my Mac and technology blog.

You will not be reading constant missives decrying you, the reader, as a sinner because you do this, or don’t do that, etc. The fact of the matter is that we are all sinners, including those of us who call ourselves Christian. Just because you have found the means of salvation doesn’t mean you are now perfect. Perfection is an unattainable goal for us on this physical Earth, and there has been only One Who has lived the perfect life. We’ll get more in to that in future posts.

I welcome feedback and encourage discussions in the comments. Thanks for stopping by!
